Oh for the want of another player or two Wanderers put up a strong effort the they took on CBK in the first of the senior games.
With only nine players against CBK’s 10 Wanderers just didn’t have the numbers up front to take advantage of their scoring opportunities.
On the other hand CBK made the most of the extra player to gain a 3-0 win. It was an entertaining match with Sarah Seears’ clearing hits out of defence for CBK a feature.
Wanderers worked hard and were certainly in with a chance of causing a huge upset. Catherine Davis brought the game to a dramatic end when she fainted - and just when Wanderers were going to make a huge comeback.
It was a big day for CBK’s Tracey Bates who put in her first goal of the season. Louisa Bonner and Catherine Davis were the other scorers.
Louisa, Hayley Bettridge and Alicia Hampson got the best and fairest points for CBK while Cheryl Sutherland, Sharon Carruthers and Nicole Compton took them home for Wanderers.
The score of the second match certainly didn’t indicate the closeness of the game between Knights and Strikers. Knights were made to work hard for their victory with Strikers defence in outstanding form.
It was the call and deft touch Debra Brookes that opened the scoring for Knights.
Sarah Fattore has been a quiet achiever this year and scored Knights’ second goal. Persistence paid off for Strikers when Karen Hardy was able to score. Two more goals off the stick of Lindy Hudson rounded out the scoring.
Best and fairest: Lindy, Sharon Parrish and Sarah Fattore (Knights) and Dale Sponberg, Adele Lotze and Jacqui Higham (Strikers).
