You need to make sacrifices and have great discipline.
And you also need support; from your family, from your friends and sometimes from your local community.
Farann Mathie has been selected to captain the female contingent for the U21 Australian Polocrosse Team to play South Africa in Port Elizabeth in July 2016.
Moruya Country Market is supporting Farann to get there.
Racing around a polocrosse field requires the utmost in horse riding skills, and more than anything that rare relationship between rider and horse.
Even so, Farann has had her moments.
But it is how she bounced back from a bad fall that illustrates the singular determination that makes her a champion.
“The horse stumbled and came down on top of me…broke a collar bone,” she said.
“It was five weeks out from nationals in Darwin.”
The doctor gave her at least six weeks out of the saddle.
Five weeks later, Farann rode onto the polocrosse field in Darwin.
To get herself and her crew to South Africa in July Farann is seeking to fundraise $5000.
Moruya Country Market is giving Farann a leg up by contributing $1000.
