World Environment Day will be celebrated on Saturday, June 4, at The Village Centre Batemans Bay. Each year, the centre hosts an interesting and interactive Environment Expo which showcases all things sustainable.
World Environment Day has been celebrated across the globe since 1973. Council will be one of several stalls open to the public this Saturday from 9am to 4pm.
Staff from Council’s Environment Team will be available to offer information and advice on a variety of environmental topics including Garden Organics and Recycling; Sustainable gardening; Environmental weeds; and Landcare in the Eurobodalla.
There will be a chance for residents to swap environmental weeds from home for free native plants at one of our popular “plant swap” events in the centre between 9am-3pm.
Environmental weeds include many of our common garden plants such as Asparagus Fern, Spider Plant, Cotoneaster, African Daisy, Honeysuckle and Crassula. For a comprehensive list of environmental weeds in our shire please visit Council’s website www.esc.nsw.gov.au/living-in/about/our-natural-environment/introduced-plants-and-animals/weeds
Just bring your environmental weeds to Council’s Environment and Sustainability stall in Village Centre on Saturday to receive a free bush friendly garden pack which includes four free native plants.
Residents can choose from many different types of groundcover, grass, and shrub species, all of which are local to our area.
This year council is also asking for residents to participate in a Landcare survey to help develop and improve our Landcare services in the Eurobodalla and to better support our volunteers. The survey will only take five minutes to complete and all participants will go in the draw to win a $100 gift voucher.
It’s also not too late to tell your “I found a leak” story as part of Eurobodalla’s “Seek a Leak Week”. We would love to hear how you found a leak, fixed and it and how much water you potentially saved.
For further information about Council’s stall at the expo please ring Emma Patyus at Eurobodalla Shire Council on 4474 7300.
