The quick work of firefighters saved a Sunshine Bay home overnight after fire spread from nearby bushland.
Batemans Bay Fire and Rescue attended the fire after being alerted at about 1.15am.
The crew said it was called to a bushfire, but on arrival found a two-storey home alight.
“Crews quickly managed to get the fire under control and stop the spread with the assistance of the Rural Fire Service,” the crew said.
“Both FRNSW and RFS crews gained entry to the premises and stopped any further spread of the fire with lines of hoses.
“With the quick action of both services most of the damage was contained to the outside of the house, with minor internal damage.”
Far South Coast Rural Fire Service manger John Cullen said crews were called at 1.17am from Batemans Bay and Surf Beach brigades.
He congratulated the efforts of all services involved and said the fire had allegedly been started when ash was cleaned from a fireplace and left in a bucket nearby.
