I am originally from the Northern Beaches in Sydney, but, as the picture to the left shows, I have previously worked well outside of the big city.
My first job was as a sports reporter in the Queenland mining town of Mount Isa.
I then experienced reporting on sporting life in the NSW country towns of Cootamundra and Kempsey.
Having grown up on the coast, it is great to be back near the ocean.
I can already see that Batemans Bay has a lively sporting community, made up of many different organisations.
I look forward to covering sport of all levels, and exploring as much of the region as possible.
I have already had the chance to write about a variety of different groups and meet officials from some of the clubs, which has all been very positive.
In the other towns I have worked at, I have had the chance to participate in sport within the area, as well as report on it and I hope to do the same here. I love all sport, but will never say no to a cricket or tennis game.
It seems I could not have arrived at a better time.
The footy season is well underway and there are definitely some exciting games coming up across each of the codes.
While I can definitely say that Cootamundra and Kempsey were die-hard rugby league towns, Batemans Bay seems to have more balance in terms of its sporting set up.
It is my aim to make sure this is reflected in the sports section of each of the papers we produce.
I have worked in communities where people demand nothing but the best from their local paper and it is great that the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner is held in high regard within the town.
There has been a lot of change in the way news has been delivered throughout the past couple of years, and the evolution of the print media industry shows no signs of slowing down.
One aspect of regional newspapers that has remained consistent is the necessity for journalists to understand the needs of their community.
I hope I can live up to that challenge. Drop me a line with your sporting story ideas at sport.eurobodalla@fairfaxmedia.com.au
