As with any great ball, the highlight of the evening will be the music. Before the two-course dinner, a stirring performance by singers, drummers and dancers of Deep River Choir and Djembe Forte will be a perfect warm-up before Sarabande takes the stage.
The silky-voiced Sarah Leaver leads this group of outstanding musicians –bass guitarist Stafford Ray, rhythm guitarist Paul Baker, and lead guitarist Matthew Fraser.
Stafford says the group decided not to have a drummer for a very good reason.
“The noise frequency of percussion causes people who want to chat to have to raise their voices to a shout, or it stops them from talking altogether, so not having a drummer is making the band very popular,” Stafford said.
Ball organisers say the ball is not strictly formal and encouraged people to wear whatever they thought suited the occasion.
The ball will be a big fundraiser for a new Visitors Centre at the Gardens, the shire’s top tourist destination, and former ABC Radio presenter Ian Campbell will be the MC.
Tickets for this evening of good food, great live music, dancing and entertainment are $60 a head from the Botanic Gardens (cash only) and Moruya Books. Doors open at 6.30pm.
