A Narooma man out for a joy ride in his newly acquired, inflatable rubber boat sparked an emergency alarm on Wednesday afternoon when someone mistook him for being in trouble.

The 32-year-old man launched his IRB at the Dalmeny boat ramp and was having fun in the large surf when someone spotted him from shore and called 000 mistaking him for going over the side.
Moruya’s Westpac Lifesaver 23 headed to Kianga Point after the reports a person was missing after a boat was swamped by waves. The NSW Maritime vessel was sent out and was seen heading north and then south along the coast.
Narooma Surf Life Saving Club members also responded and were searching the coast between Kianga and Dalmeny looking for any sign of a missing boat. Narooma police also attended and later making contact with the man when he was back on shore in Dalmeny.
The man, who acquired the ex Terrigal surf club rubber duck three weeks ago, told police he would call Marine Rescue next time he went out.
