If the quote above is true, the guys in the picture above are really living.
Volunteers in Surfside got together earlier this month to remove weeds on the foreshore and replace them with suitable native plants that will provide excellent habitat and protection for this dynamic coastal area.
Throughout Surfside there are many people that do important Landcare works, such as litter collection, weed control and environmental education.
These residents have often been working independently of each other and it’s been great for them to connect and form part of a bigger picture working on environmental projects in their suburb.
One of the common traits of volunteers is that they do their work on behalf of the community without seeking reward or praise.
They are often also heavily invested in other volunteer activities, with many of the same people being part of sporting clubs, school support groups and other community activities.
Volunteers are very busy people and these guys are no exception!
If you are interested in helping out, Surfside Bushcare will be meeting again on June 10 at 9.30am.
Eurobodalla Shire Council looks forward to continuing to work with volunteers in this suburb on further environmental activities including marine debris collection and data logging, National Tree Day activities and Landcare working bees.
It’s always great to have more hands on deck so if you can spare an hour or two to help as a volunteer your suburb please call Emma Patyus on 4474 7300.
The Landcare movement has become the biggest environmental management movement in the country.
There are now over 5,400 Landcare and Coastcare groups across the country, and over 20 countries have now adopted the Landcare model that was developed here in Australia. Landcare groups are community owned and driven, it encourages integrated management of environmental assets with productive farmland.
