The Moruya-based Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter crew was late on Monday afternoon in its second major search for a missing person in one day.
The crew successfully winched missing US women Alyce Tidball to safety in the Deua valley, but was quickly sent to Thredbo for another missing bushwalker.
At about 4.35pm on Monday, May 2, the crew was continuing to search the area near the alpine village, with help from NSW Police.
Police said a 43-year-old male, from Kalkite, near Jindabyne, went to Dead Horse Gap at 1am, with the intention of walking to Ramshead Range.
At 6am he contacted a friend to notify them that he was lost. Police from Monaro Local Area Command were notified and deployed the Alpines Operations Unit and Wespac Lifesaver Helicopter to search for the man.
The Moruya-based helicopter crew remained in Thredbo overnight on Monday. They were to resume searching at first light on Tuesday morning, however the man walked himself out over night.
The crew returned home mid-morning on Tuesday.
