The 20-year-old was charged after falsely reporting an alleged assault and robbery at Surf Beach on March 4, 2016.
Police were told about 10.30pm, Janz was walking near the Surf Beach car park, off Beach Road, when he was allegedly approached by at least one male and assaulted and robbed of his wallet and mobile phone.
Janz sustained head injuries and suspected facial fractures and was taken to Batemans Bay Hospital by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
On March 7, Janz attended Batemans Bay Police Station and was interviewed by detectives.
During the course of the interview, he allegedly admitted he made a false report to police about the incident.
Janz pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Magistrate Doug Dick on Monday, May 2.
He was sentenced to 200 hours of community service for the false report charge.
He was also charged for revoking a good behavior bond.
For that matter, he was ordered to complete a further 100 hours of community service.
Mr Dick said the community service was in lieu of jail.
“It’s better than being locked up. If you don’t do the work, you know what happens,” he said.
“Police have a lot of better things to do than investigate false reports.
“You were on a good behavior bond at the time, which makes it worse.”
