The program addresses the environmental building blocks and the personal skills for fostering resilience in children and young people.
The program focuses mainly on the teaching of coping skills to help children and young people respond positively to the complexity of their everyday lives. In other words, children are taught how to ‘bounce back’ after experiencing sadness, difficulties, frustrations and hard times.
“The program is designed to meet the needs of children from kindergarten to middle school,” a spokeswoman said.
“We will run two groups to cater for both younger and older children. The sessions will be facilitated by a qualified educational professional and an assistant, both of whom have current police and working with children checks.”
A group for children aged from 4-7 years will run on Tuesdays from 3.30- 5pm for 9 weeks.
The first session will be on May 3.
Sessions for children aged 8-12 years will be on Wednesdays from 3.30-5pm for nine weeks and the first session is on May 4.
The Playing and Learning to Socialise (PALS) program teaches children from 3 - 6 years of age about greeting others, listening, sharing, taking turns, dealing with feelings of fear, sadness and anger, and solving problems.
“Learning social skills such as these in early childhood is just as important as learning numeracy and literacy,” a spokeswoman said.
“We are currently taking expressions of interest. If you would like your child to develop their social skills, please contact us as soon as possible.
“Managers Barb Pike and Cate McMath would love to meet you and have a chat about how Muddy Puddles can help you and your family. Give us a call to arrange a time that suits you on 4472 6939.
