However, a Far South Coast shipment came with a fantastic additional conversation starter.
Tarra Ford Bega received three new Mustangs last week as part of the dealership’s allocation to fulfil the many orders it has.
In preparing one of the cars for its owner, one of Tarra’s detailers found an iPhone 5s under the seat and handed it to the sales manager Andrew Nagle.
Due to the phone being locked, Mr Nagle passed it to fleet manager James Coleman to see if he could access the owner’s information.
Seeing that Apple will not even unlock a phone for the FBI, Mr Coleman had little chance of getting the help needed from Apple to crack the pin code.
So he popped the sim card out to see if the owner was Australian or American. The sim was Sprint so he knew the owner was American.
He then took a screen shot of the photo on the phone’s lock screen and posted it to his personal Facebook account to see if he could get a viral thing happening to find the owner.
This was done at lunch time Friday.
At 6am Saturday, Mr Coleman awoke to news owner Carlos Salcido had been found – in Michigan, USA.
“He was absolutely amazed that, a) we found the owner, and b) so quickly,” Mr Coleman said.
A couple of messages with his wife Marsha and this week Mr Salcido’s phone will be jet setting home.
“Absolutely amazing!” Tarra director Gudrun Stylianou said.
“And to everyone who helped, a big thank you as this was a massive team effort and everyone who shared James’ post should be very happy with themselves to know they helped Carlos get his phone back.”
