One of the world's most renowned mural and international acclaimed American artist, MOMO, has revitalised the dreary Kent Street underpass into a vibrant canvas.

Using his trademark primary colours and love of practical geometry, MOMO has created the second artwork in the City Walls project, a series of surprise street art brought to citizens by the CIty of Sydney and local artist, Elliott Routledge.

"Local artist Elliott Numskull Routledge contacted me to participate in this year's Art and About with a mural." MOMO said. "He sent photos of the Kent St Underpass knowing that I enjoy odd architecture and I immediately liked the idea. My outdoor wall paintings typically play with the given architectural arrangements and even borrow methods and vocabulary from architects and builders."

Born in San Francisco, MOMO is known for being a pioneer of abstract movements within large scale public art walls. He has travelled for most of his life, creating art in 20 countries.

Some of his works include a double-facade, five-storey printed vinyl mural in Manhattan, a 73 metre tall mural in Philadelphia and a 61 metre mural between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges in Brooklyn.

This is MOMO's first Australian project and said he was "game for more projects" in the future.

"What I saw of Sydney was extremely beautiful and I felt foolish for not planning weeks to explore," he said. "We had 10 days to do this [project] and we spent everyone of them painting - I didn't make it to the beach once!"

Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore was thrilled with MOMO's work and said Sydneysiders should expect more surprise projects throughout the year.

"I love that this work takes a previously unloved part of the city and inspires people to seek it out and spend time there." she said. "I've even heard about people gathering for spontaneous dance sessions."
