Under the NSW Government amalgamation proposal, the Araluen is to be split in two. The community want to stay as one, and join the shire.
Mr Peters thought comments made by Mr Constance “lacked consideration”.
“It is a complete turn around from his previous position on amalgamations,” Mr Peters said.
“He is really missing the opportunity to improve the transport link to Moruya, which is in the middle of his electorate.
“He is also missing the opportunity in securing water security for people of the Eurobodalla.”
Mr Peters said he had attempted to speak with Mr Constance a number of times.
That the Eurobodalla had approached the State Government for options to fund a boundary change, delighted Mr Peters.
“That is a really good sign for us and it is a step forward in what we are trying to do,” he said.
Mr Constance said a boundary change to include the Araluen in the Eurobodalla would have no financial benefit to ratepayers.
Mr Peters said Mr Constance had “failed completely in realising that council mergers and Fit for the Future actually transcend simple financial data”.
“He has failed to see that there are so many other aspects, besides financial data, that are to be considered when making a decision like this,” he said.
“To me, that is what being Fit for the Future is all about.”
