Four-time Paralympian, world champion and Commonwealth games gold medalist Eric Klein released a perfect shot through the ribbon and into the bullseye to start indoor archery in Batemans Bay.
Before Klein’s shot, PCYC Far South Coast club manager Gary Traynor spoke to a 100-plus strong group about the role PCYC has in the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley shires and introduced Klein.
He also highlighted that all champions started at a local level and the fun side of the sport, such as a competitive spirit among families.
Traynor praised the Eurobodalla Shire Council for supporting a new sport and the Eurobodalla Archery Club for providing equipment and training.
Deputy mayor Rob Pollock said he was delighted to be at the launch and highlighted the importance of multipurpose indoor facilities.
Following Klein’s 35-foot shot parents and children were invited to begin the come and try day.
Individuals then had turns at six targets and learnt the basic skills of the sport under the guidance of Eurobodalla Archery Club members.
PCYC also hopes to devote future indoor archery classes to groups such as Yumaro and encourages wheelchair-bound persons to join in.
PCYC Far South Coast offers a various range of activities such as kung fu in Bega, martial arts in Moruya and indoor soccer at Narooma.
