After day one of the Far South Coast Cricket Association match the Pirates trail by 63 runs and lost first innings points.
The Pirates won the toss and elected to bat. The decision backfired early as opener Daniel Alderton was dismissed for nought.
Friskin (58 not out) hit his third half-century of the season and was ably supported by Matt Corbett until he was run-out on 16.
However, fellow Pirate opener Dean Friskin dug deep and was the stand-out batsman on his team.
Friskin (58 not out) hit his third half-century of the season and was ably supported by Matt Corbett until he was run-out on 16.
The Pirates’ lower-order batsmen struggled against Tathra’s miserly attack and the visitors were dismissed for 102 from 37.4 overs.
Tathra’s Adam Blacka worked tirelessly and finished with figures of 3/24 from 15 overs while Rhys Cunningham returned figures of 4/36 from 9.4 overs.
In reply, Elijah Blair nabbed the early wickets of Chris Dwyer (5) and Ross Jones (2).
Tathra’s number four Peter Bennett stole the show with a game-high score of 61.
Craig Nicholson (23), Blacka (21) and Cunningham (22) found gaps in the field and the home side secure first innings points.
Blair captured figures of 4/41 from 12 overs and Ben Potter was the other multiple wicket-taker with 3/40 from four overs. Friskin nabbed two catches, as did young Lachlan Brennan. Southern Eurobodalla resumes batting at 1pm tomorrow.
B grade almost snatches victory
Southern Eurobodalla’s B grade team remains in fourth position despite a nine-run loss to Wyndham on Saturday.
Cellar dwellers Wyndham lost the toss and were sent to the crease and the home side batted patiently. It used its full complement of overs to score 7/123, however, the Pirates conceded 25 extras.
In reply, the Pirates appeared in control at 1/36, but the quick dismissals of Adrian Ridgley (4), Alex Filmer-Smith (20) and Shannon Green (0) left it reeling at 4/41. David Sweet (12) and Brendan Connor (22 not out) swung momentum the Pirates’ way and with the help of extras, 34 in total, the Pirates reached the 80-mark.
However that was when Ty Hitchins (6), David Moran (1) and Sweet were dismissed and the Pirates were in a hole at 8/81, 43 runs short of victory.
Simon Hitchins and Josh Mugridge accompanied Connor and the trio almost snatched victory, but when Hitchins was bowled the Pirates were all out for 114 from 31.2 overs.
The Pirates’ B grade team faces Pambula at Dalmeny Oval on Saturday, the club’s C grade team tackles Wyndham at Bodalla Oval and the Pirate under 14s play Bega/Angledale at George Griffin Oval.
