Eurobodalla Shire Council Mayor Lindsay Brown has spoken against the Araluen communities push to become part of the shire.
Mr Brown said there “did not appear to be any financial upside to the Eurobodalla at all” in a boundary change to include the Araluen.
“My view is that the benefit to the Eurobodalla community is no benefit,” Mr Brown said.
“There is very limited information in which to make financial decisions but it appears that there would be a financial cost to the ratepayers of the Eurobodalla.”
He said council would act in the best interest of shire residents.
“It is very difficult to look at the financial costs at the moment because we don't have information from Palarang but early indications are that there will be a financial cost for the Eurobodalla,” Mr Brown said.
He admitted he had discussions with Bega MP Andrew Constance about what funding was available to assist council in a boundary change.
“I spoke to Andrew on a number of matters about what financial opportunities there are for councils to be amalgamated and our council is a stand alone council and we currently aren’t eligible for any money,” he said.
