In defence of dogs
Regarding Grumpy Old Woman, Bay Post/Moruya Examiner, January 6, I would rather put up with people’s pooches than a lot of the small children (brats) who accompany their parents whilst shopping etc.

The majority of people with dogs know when their pets are being a nuisance, unlike some of the “parents” who let their little ferals do as they please, and bugger anyone whose outing is being ruined.

… and more about dogs
Why do some dog owners go away and leave their pooch, not for a night or one day, but for a week?
Lilli Pilli is full of howling barking dogs.
If you own one of these, spare a thought for your neighbours.

In memorium for real bread
Each week the bread appear to become more and more expensive, while becoming progressively smaller and more tasteless.
What a complete waste of flour to form it into something that is about half the size of a few years ago and now smells and tastes, even feels, more like old mouldy wall board.
We won’t need to shop for it soon; they should be able to post it to us.
It sure should fit through the slot in the letter box; that’s if it has not completely disappeared up it’s own orifice, saving the effort of even sourcing it.

Feeling a little green
Regarding Whose Democracy?, Bay Post/Moruya Examiner, December 30, I am a bit shocked to learn that The Greens have a policy to “protect feral animals at the expense of native mammals and birds”.
Shame on you, Greens. I agree with Stuart. Because of that, there is no way anyone should listen to their policies of cleaning up the air and waterways, getting real about climate change, or their support for the disadvantaged.
Then there is their policy of resisting the promotion of guns in the community. Sorry, that policy might have been John Howard’s. But that’s okay, he isn’t a Green.
However, it is outrageous that Nick Hopkins should criticise anyone for taking pot shots at animals and birds for fun.
I was about to comment on the Sydney car dealer being investigated for shooting wombats, but I guess the Greens would be OK with that too.

Return safely
It is now the peak holiday season for our beautiful coastline.
I would urge all visitors to the South Coast to drive safely, respect the locals and observe the speed limits. Breathe in the fresh air, take in our stunning scenery and enjoy your holiday without being another road statistic. Don't bring despair to your family and friends.

Malua Bay
Intractable problem
(Recently) I cut through the bush from Albatross Rd and a very pleasant walk in the scrub it was until I reached the dirt road that runs past the cemetery and the motor vehicle showrooms.
At the end is a truckload of household waste, including a mattress. In the background was a magnificent view of Batemans Bay. It was such an incongruous sight.
I once asked why the council did not have more big-rubbish collections and then people might not dump rubbish in the bush. The officer said something like "waste makes waste".
I'm still puzzling over the comment.
