A disappointing waste of time for those visiting for a much needed break.
A bummer for residents with some time off and yen to get to their favorite beach.
An annoying inconvenience and insult to injury for residents continuing to work through the festive season.
A serious barrier for emergency services attempting to work at their most intense period of the year.
No-one feels good about it and everyone, at some point, while they sat in traffic, from the southern part of the shire to the northern reaches, must have muttered or shouted something along the lines of: “Why can’t this be fixed?”
Coila resident Pete Ward did more than mutter; he put pen to paper, as you can see in our letters section below.
Pete has a few ideas of what could be done and they are worth considering.
The idea of waiting until Easter for it all to happen again just seems dumb.
It is time for a serious discussion for what measures can be put in place now, before the Batemans Bay spine road is finished, before any new bridge over the Clyde River does or does not happen.
What Mr Ward has proposed may not be the answer, but he does suggest some simple steps that might make a difference to traffic flow at peak periods.
If your intention is to siphon southbound traffic around the town, away from the Moruya CBD, then perhaps his idea is worth a think.
All ideas should be on the table now.
The shire’s economy depends on the tourism dollar.
Let’s make it so that dollar can be spent as enjoyably and easily as possible.
Fairfax Media is running its Keep it Clean campaign this summer.
We are urging residents and visitors to send in photographs of rubbish hot spots and the lovely areas they wish to keep that way.
In this week’s torrential rain, any rubbish and cigarette butts left lying around will have found their way to the nearest drain and waterway, on their way to the sea and into the digestive systems of marine creatures.
Help us stop paradise being loved to death.
