The Moruya-based Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter found up to seven sharks at Hyams Beach, in the Shoalhaven.
“Swimmers had already left the water but two divers were still underwater nearby,” helicopter general manager Stephen Leahy said.
“The helicopter hovered above the surface, sounding its siren.
“The divers surfaced and then returned to shore.
“The sharks were then moved into deeper water well away from swimmers.”
The helicopter crew was sent to the area after sharks were reported close to shore.
On Christmas Day, the helicopter crew winched five boaters to safety after their boat overturned and was found drifting off North Durras several hours later.
