Eleven fire fighters from three crews spread 35 buckets of sand on Cranbrook Road, between the Princes Highway and Sharon Road to mop up the spill.
Traffic was delayed on the highway and in the industrial area after the spill.
Fire and Rescue Batemans Bay deputy captain Alan Fitches said the spill was one kilometre long.
“Trucks had trouble getting out of the industrial area because of the slippery surface,” Mr Fitches said.
“They had trouble getting traction.”
Police and fire crews are attending and traffic control was in place at the intersection of Cranbook Rd and the Princes Highway.
The incident was reported at 8.55am on Wednesday, December 2 and crews were on scene for three-and-a-half hours.
Police have asked drivers to avoid the area if possible.
