Fifth-placed Batemans Bay was searching for its second win of the season and had a confident outlook, electing to bat when it won the toss at Bomaderry Oval.
The visitor’s top-order batsmen found some form and defended their wicket well.
Opener Gav Ladmore (25) and first-drop Sam Lee (27) took the score to 40, but then Ladmore was caught by Blake Munilla off Brendan Hiriart (3/16).
Matt Sethi (32) joined Lee and the pair made Bomaderry work hard, flicking around singles mixed in with a few boundaries.
The pair put on a 50-run stand and Batemans Bay had only lost two wickets by the 26th over.
However, in the space of 10 runs, Lee and Sethi were dismissed by Zac Blattner and Jarryd Sue (1/25) and the Bay’s score was 4/100.
The visitors set up for a late onslaught towards the end of its innings, but the home side fought back with a flurry of late wickets and after 44.2 overs Batemans Bay was all out for 160.
Middle-order batsmen Grant Morris (16), Stephen Knight (16) and Marc Stiller (15) each found the boundary line at least three times in their short cameo innings.
Bomaderry’s Hiriart finished with team-best figures of 3/16 from 8.2 overs.
Batemans Bay opening bowlers were in the thick of things early on and locked down Bomaderry the best it could.
Stiller, Luke Condon and Mick Smart restricted the home side’s scoring options and their fielders backed them up.
Sam Bennett caught Munilla (11) off Condon and then Knight took a one-handed reflex catch at second slip to dismiss dangerous opener Ben King-Gee off Stiller’s bowling with the score at 2/16.
Sethi then held onto another catch off Stiller’s bowling to remove Paul Sawkins (2) and Bomaderry was reeling at 3/23.
Bomaderry’s Nick McDonald (68 not out) forged a solid innings, while Batemans Bay removed his batting partners, who had made starts, to stay in the hunt.
However, in the 43rd over the home side passed the target with four wickets in hand for its third win of the season.
Condon finished with team-best figures of 3/27 from nine overs.
Next Saturday fifth-placed Batemans Bay plays sixth-placed Bay and Basin at Sanctuary Point Oval.
