A corporation spokeswomen said harvesting next to the Princes Highway in the Boyne State Forest was completed on November 18.
“As is standard practice, in around six months, to allow for stabilisation of the environment, Forestry will offer the public the opportunity to collect firewood from the harvested section at Boyne State Forest,” she said.
“As part of harvest operations such as the operation at Boyne State Forest, fire breaks are constructed between the harvested areas and private property boundaries to assist with fire containment.”
The spokeswomen said being prepared for fires was a ‘high priority’ for Forestry.
“Forestry Corporation places a high priority on fire preparedness, fast detection and early response.
“The Corporation is also engaging seasonal fire-fighting staff to assist with fire response.”
The logged area next to the Princes Highway at Boyne State Forest will be scheduled for hazard reduction burning in Autumn 2016.
