It was another excellent afternoon to go sailing last Saturday when Batemans Bay Sailing Club held its Bay Cup Race on the pristine waters of Batemans Bay.

The early cloud burnt off and 10-knot ESE breeze had filled in by the time the five competing yachts ventured forth for the scheduled 3pm start time.
Race officer Dave Magill and his trusty crew aboard the committee boat Clarence the Clocker set a boat end favoured start line.
Accolade (Lachlan Brown) did a well-timed boat end start to grab the early lead.
Apostrophe (Tim Davis) tacked away to the right hand side of the course.
She got a favourable veering shift on her starboard tack approach to the windward mark at the Toll Gates.
Accolade just led from Apostrophe rounding the top mark with Attitude (Simon Byrne) close behind.
Wishful Thinking (Andrew Bain) was caught out on the left side of the course and lost ground.
The next leg was a broad reach to the wing mark at Wimbie Beach.
Accolade was just able to hold Apostrophe off, gybe before the mark and carry her asymmetrical spinnaker to the leeward mark off Snapper Island.
Apostrophe dropped her spinnaker before the wing mark and fell back before later putting the kite back up again.
Wishful did likewise, but not before giving Attitude a luff up to close hauled, causing Attitude to collapse her spinnaker.
The yachts then worked up to the Toll Gates mark and ran back to a finish off Snapper Island.
Accolade kept a loose cover on the fleet to claim a comfortable line honours and AMS win.
Attitude sailed an excellent second work.
She recovered well after dropping her spinnaker in the water on the final run when the halyard became detached. She was close enough to win on PHS.
Apostrophe made up ground on the run to finish third on both AMS and PHS.
Wishful went too far left again on the second work and she finished fourth on both AMS and PHS.
The big boat of the fleet Xanthia (James Gardiner) was sailing with an inexperienced crew so unable to set her quarter acre spinnaker. Her crew had a comfortable ride around the course.
In Division two Vital Spark, Richard Dunne’s Bonbridge 27, completed the course unopposed.
The next race for the BBSC keelboat fleet will be on December 5, followed by the Christmas barbecue.
