TUROSS HEAD BOWLING CLUB
MEN’S BOWLS
Handicap Pairs
The finalists of the handicap pairs have been finally decided as the players had to battle with the weather to get their games completed.
In the first game Stan Peck played 3 or 4 crucial bowls that allowed he and Michael Kennedy record a 22 – 21 win over Ivan Balentovic and Ian Wratten. Kennedy and Peck had to give their opponents a 7 shot start but quickly moved to a 11 – 8 lead. From this point the game was very close until one of Peck’s great bowls snatched 6 shots and a 21 – 16 lead. Balentovic and Wratten fought back to level the scores with one end to play. Again Peck played the big bowl to guide his side to victory.
It took two days to complete the other semi final between Lou Kozlik and Peter Bird and Julian Penny and John Monks. On the first day Kozlik and Bird had an eight shot lead and they picked up 4 more shots to race to a 12 – 2 advantage before rain forced the players to leave the green.
In the end this 10 shot advantage proved too much despite the best efforts of Penny and Monks. As well, whenever they seemed threatened Bird was able to pull a trick or two out to consolidate their position. In the end Kozlik and Bird won 29 – 23.
Unfortunately, a health setback to Stan Peck has meant that the date of the final has not been determined.
Fours Championship
The first round of the 2015 fours championship started on Saturday with a very exciting game between Alan Ettheredge, Peter Bird, Jim Howden and John Fahey and Ivan Balentovic, David Boon, Michael Kennedy and Ron Cox.
After 9 ends Cox held a one shot lead but then picked up 9 shots in 4 ends to lead 17 – 9. After 18 ends he led 20 – 14. Fahey then stormed home picking up two scores of three shots to level the score at 20 all with an end to play. Two further shots on the last end resulted in a come from behind 22 – 20 to Fahey’s team.

Sunday 15 November saw the recommencement of the Handicap Singles after being postponed Saturday due to the inclement weather. Peter Cordy played another solid performance to defeat Rod Marshall 25-14, while the talk of the day was the victory of John Lipton, who staring down a 17-2 deficit carried over from the day before showed nerves of steel to fight his way to a 25-22 win over Peter Kinnaird. The final was played that afternoon and the game didn’t disappoint. Early on Peter Cordy, with his five start and some solid play skipped ahead of his opponent however, John Lipton again showed perseverance to bring the scores level at 17 all. Keeping composed, Peter Cordy rallied to pull away and finish the game with a 25-17 victory. Congratulations to both players for putting on a great spectacle for all who braced the wintery conditions.
