You can see her every week with Kate, stocking up on groceries or choosing wines. You might see her at the Saturday market having a word to Tiny. You must have seen her at Gundary with daughter Joani, working at becoming a serious coffee drinker.
And surely you have seen Jean Reid at a live music concert! She was a faithful follower of Spicy Fruit Chutney and she has followed acupuncturist Alec Mitchell to the Somedays.
Sometimes you will see her at a demo, she is regularly welcomed at Deua Rivercare and the Slightly Bent Choir, St. John’s. She has a bad knee so you will hear her stick coming.
Jean turns 100 on Saturday. She has six children, Elizabeth, Trish, Mick, Mardhi, John and Joani. Jean taught at Daramalan College, Canberra, where she showed her passion for students with learning difficulties. She was awarded an OAM for her contribution to Special Education. Jean has frequent contact with ex-students. She recently attending the 80th birthday of a student she taught in her first year out.
She was married to the late Jim Reid for more than 60 years. A hundred-not-out is not unusual in Jean’s family; her mother made 103, her great aunt Jean 108.
