Pancakes and fresh fruit will be on the menu on the lawns in front of the council building in Vulcan Street from 8am to 9am. There will also be prizes for riders on the day courtesy of local bike shops.
Eurobodalla Mayor and keen cyclist Lindsay Brown said riding was a fantastic way to commute and exercise.
“It’s good for your physical and mental health, good for the environment and good fun,” he said.
“We are encouraging our staff and residents to have a go at riding to work on Wednesday.”
Ride2Work is a national program that encourages thousands of Australians to try bike riding as an alternative way of getting to work.
Forty-seven per cent of new riders who registered for Ride2Work Day in 2012 were still riding to work when they were surveyed five months later.
The program is designed to help people move from contemplation to action and establish a habit of riding to work.
Research has shown that the encouragement of friends, family and employers is helpful in starting the habit.
Ride2Work Day is also about raising awareness about bicycle safety and the need for improved bicycle-friendly facilities, so that riding to work is a safe fun and efficient viable option for more commuters.
Workplaces interested in more information and those wanting to participate in their own Ride2Work Day can do so by registering with the Bicycle Network online at www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/general/ride2work.
