The Local Landcare Coordinators Initiative provides a network of locally-based coordinators to work with Landcare groups to build capacity and connections within communities.
The primary aim is to enable the effective participation of voluntary community based groups and networks, landholders and the wider community in natural resource management activities that manage and restore the natural environment, improve the sustainability of agricultural production, and build the resilience of communities.
Organisations have until 5pm Wednesday, October 14, to apply.
Up to 60 positions are available state-wide.
South East Local Land Services general manager Derek Larsen said the local coordinators would work closely with existing Landcare networks and the local community to build capacity and resilience.
“By increasing the resources available at the local level and offering centralised support, the Landcare volunteer effort should be able to flourish and volunteers will be able to focus their efforts on on-ground works,” Mr Larsen said.
“Throughout the south-east region, local groups of volunteers are striving to continue and this support should help them deliver strategically-aligned programs, with the support and guidance they need.
“It will also put Landcare on a more sustainable footing to ensure you can remain financially viable in the future.”
Funding of $50,000 per year is available to host organisations over a 3.5-year period to engage a part-time coordinator.
The $15 million Local Landcare Coordinators Initiative will also see the establishment of a Landcare Future Fund to investigate potential funding options, as well as a Community of Practice to provide centralised training and support.
