Batemans Bay’s Nic McKirdy competed at the Brisbane Street Luge Club event again after winning the 2014 title.
Competitors reached speeds of more than 60km/h and lay feet-first, racing down the 1.83km track.
McKirdy qualified second in the field of 27 riders in the street luge category in two minutes 20.34 and was seventh in classic luge on a wet track.
In the finals McKirdy placed third in classic luge and second in street luge.
He is tied for first in the street luge series with Queensland’s Graham Brittain and the series decider will be held in Cooma in November.
McKirdy stated he was happy to place second, keeping his chances alive of defending the championship.
“The level of competition is growing with so many new riders taking up the sport which is a great thing to see,” McKirdy said.
