A Batemans Bay Fire and Rescue spokesman said the man was trying to reach the road from the beach at about 8pm on Sunday but instead of taking the steps, tried to climb up on the rocks and fell and hurt his leg.
“The message is that if there is a safe option, take it,” the spokesman said.
In other marine news, a Batemans Bay Marine Rescue crew came to the aid of four people aboard a 4.8m Quintex runabout on the Clyde River about 4km from Batemans Bay on Saturday afternoon.
The runabout had suffered a flat battery and the Marine Rescue vessel towed it back to the Hanging Rock boat ramp.
