Eurobodalla Shire Council is one of 160 councils signed on to host the The Garage Sale Trail, a nation-wide day for garage sales.
It is free for sellers and shoppers to register on the Garage Sale Trail website.
Sellers can be community groups, schools, and charities who want to fundraise, or simply households that want to declutter.
Shoppers can find treasure, meet their neighbours and be part of the reuse movement.
Mayor Lindsay Brown first became aware of the event through the Canberra Region Joint Organisation and said he was right behind the concept.
He said it was a fun and social way to make money, meet neighbours and help the environment.
“Council already provides annual hard-waste and chemical clean outs in addition to weekly collection services to our waste customers,” Cr Brown said.
“Joining the Garage Sale Trail is a great addition to these services and helps to promote reuse and reduce landfill.
“As well as buying, selling and recycling, this is a fun opportunity for people to connect with their neighbours and the broader community and I encourage schools, charities and community groups to think about getting together for a fundraising sale.”
In 2014 more than 350,000 people participated in Garage Sale Trail, with 2.9 million pre-loved items up for sale from more than 8000 garage sales.
The average seller made more than $300 and met 13 new people in their community on the day.
Eurobodalla residents and groups can register their sale at www.garagesaletrail.com.au where it will be plotted on an interactive map and seen and searched by thousands of shoppers across Australia.
Buyers can search the website by postcode, suburb, item or category.
Closer to the day create your own treasure trail from the sales you like in your local area and let your smart phone guide you there or print out your Garage Sale personalised trail.
