He has reinstated a local government ministry in the federal government, and appointed Paul Fletcher as the Minister for Territories, Local Government and Major Projects.
That would have to be some of the best news rural and regional Australia has had for some time from Canberra.
Obviously, Malcolm Turnbull has recognised the valued contribution rural and regional areas make to the national economy.
Perhaps the federal government will reinstate indexation to local government grant funding, which will productively contribute even more to rural and regional economies.
Without the contributions from regional and rural areas, the national economy would be really struggling.
