The Moruya Surf Life Saving Club has received more than 100 nominations so far and the first 250 registered receive a free running singlet or T-shirt.
Online entries close next Saturday but late registrations will be taken at the starting line at Riverside Park on September 13.
The run was revived in 2012, and the event is set to be bigger and better than in past years.
A new team category is open for nominations this year and four divisions – sporting and community, business house, family and school – will add interest for runners, or walkers, keen to complete the undulating eight-kilometre course.
After requests in past years to open it to teams, organisers have responded in the hope of appealing to people who may have thought it was too difficult to tackle alone.
There will be prizes for the first three teams across the line in each division, based on total team time, and teams can be mixed, all female or all male.
The focus of the event is still fun and participation and organisers would like to see children team up with school or sport mates to share the camaraderie of completing the course together.
The fun run was abandoned in the mid-1990s but has been a standout on the running calendar since its return, attracting runners from Canberra and across NSW.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners of the individual group categories which include under 13s, 13-17, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-plus and a perpetual trophy will be awarded to the fastest 40s man and woman.
Any runner in a team event will be recognised in the individual category so entrants can race for bragging rights among their team.
To register visit www.moruyasurf.org.au or the Rustic Pantry in Moruya.
It’s the major fundraiser for the Moruya surf club and it helps provide funding for first aid equipment, patrol uniforms and competition craft.
Moruya SLSC also runs a Special Nippers program and some of that gear allows disabled children to enjoy the sun and surf throughout summer.
The race begins at 9am and presentations follow at the club’s headquarters at South Head.
