A century ago the first two women joined the NSW Police Force, and carved their place in Australian history.
On March 7 this year, a state-wide Women in Policing baton relay commenced at the Opera House, and has made its way across all 76 local area commands in the state in six months.
Tomorrow, the final leg of the relay will cross the Harbour Bridge along the Cahill expressway to Hyde Park Barracks, and the baton will return to from where it started.
From there, more than 700 female police employees, past and present, will march through Sydney’s CBD.
Among them will be Far South Coast’s Inspector Angela Burnell and Senior Constables Joanne Flood, Donna Clarke and Ashleigh Bates.
The contingent will march to the Opera House, where the baton will be handed over to former NSW Governor, Dame Marie Bashir.
Members of the public are invited to line Macquarie Street from midday to 1pm to watch the march and join in the celebrations.
The public is then welcome to watch the formal reception on the Opera House forecourt steps.
