Broulee’s under 14s finished the season on top of the table and looked to have plenty of chances to win their first grand final.
However, the big occasion and nerves affected the team from the outset and it trailed 15-5 at half-time.
The coaches would not reveal what they told the team at half-time but whatever they said worked as the Dolphins came crashing through St Edmund’s defence from the start of the second half.
The Dolphins invigorated attack and defence and piled on 29 points, holding St Edmund’s well to win the title.
The Dolphins under 12s team played Wests in the club’s other grand final match at the weekend.
Making their second consecutive grand final, the team hoped to continue the good form it has shown this season.
Broulee’s hopes were dashed by a determined Wests side, which won the close contest 14-12.
Dolphins under 12s coach Jon Brady congratulated his team on its season.
“Well done to all our under 12s today and thanks for an awesome season, I am so proud of the spirit and determination shown by every Dolphin,” Brady said.
“Thank you also to our parents and supporters, we couldn’t do it without you.”
The Dolphins Rugby Union Club will celebrate the end of the season at the annual presentation night on Saturday at the Tomakin Sports and Social Club.
Presentations for all junior and senior teams will commence at 5pm with a barbecue afterwards.
