A group of 200 disgruntled members has submitted a petition to the club calling for the meeting.
Former president Kim Odgers has written to members regarding the need for the meeting.
“The current board now bears no resemblance to the board the membership voted for last October,” he said.
“Five directors have resigned and four members were then subsequently directly appointed by the board as replacements.
“The purpose of the general meeting is not just to remove current directors, it is more to achieve fresh elections for a board that is, by any measure, not representative of last October’s member preferences.
“Since the 2014 club election, five directors have resigned citing difficulties with CEO and board relationships, policy direction, treatment of the veterans sub-club, and the refusal of the president to resign following his dual drink-driving convictions.
“Six of the current directors have not been directly elected by the members to their board positions and were instead internally appointed by other directors.
“Please note that the petition that has called for the general meeting to remove the four directors is the only mechanism available to the members to bring about fresh elections.
“If the membership at the September general meeting vote to remove the four directors named, the remaining four directors will have little choice other than to immediately organise for a full board election at the earliest opportunity.
The meeting will be held at the club at 8pm on September 17.
Catalina Club management declined to comment on the issue.
