She is disappointed at the lack of people volunteering to join the Batemans Bay Water Garden Flying Fox Steering Committee, despite the number of complaints voiced about the flying foxes at a meeting at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club on May 9.
Ms Hellier said no-one from the that meeting had joined the the committee.
“Those at the meeting would be aware of the amount of complaints voiced over the issue of the flying foxes,” she said.
“There was a follow up meeting at the Community Centre in Batemans Bay which attracted a number of people, and subsequently the council advertised for
interested community members to join the committee.
“Unfortunately no-one from the community volunteered.
“This only came to our group’s attention when we had a meeting with (Eurobodalla Shire Council general manager) Dr Catherine Dale towards of last week.”
Ms Hellier was permitted to sit in on last Friday’s meeting of the steering committee at the Batemans Bay Community Centre.
“This committee appear to be very proactive and there has been some much-needed work commenced in the Water Garden area,” she said.
“I have since spoken to a resident who has been affected by the flying foxes for the last three years, and she has told me that the council has been very active in keeping affected residents informed, but unfortunately, due to the this lady’s many commitments, she was unable to volunteer for the committee.
“I find it is disappointing that there is not a representative from the community on this committee to give first-hand views of how they have been affected.”
