The Moruya Jockey Club is confident the meeting will go ahead despite the rain which would have swamped just about any other racetrack.
A couple of drying days and the track and grounds will be in good shape to host the meeting.
The track is predicted to be rated a soft seven.
In the first race, Moruya-trained horses Redondo Rock, Shoulder Charge and Gresham Station could fill the placings.
All are in good form and look to be progressive types.
In race three, Yarragee Road, Mr Burns and Rushman are all chances but Bega-horse Jungle Edge will be hard to beat.
Race four sees Lynda Bundy’s Dance Harder Son having his second start and he will be favoured to win after his great run at Bega recently.
Danehill Devil has been working well of late and should improve on his last effort.
In the next race, Briefcase Benny might be the best of the locals.
He is racing in great form, belying his age and deserves a win.
Race six is the Clubs Cup and a good field will compete.
Matthew Woods’ Brockman returns to racing following a long break to get over an injury.
He strolled home in a trial at Nowra last weekend, likes a wet track and races well while fresh.
In the last, Lavington Star and Lothello both have excellent chances.
Looking back over the past fortnight there have been mixed results for Moruya gallopers.
It was a good start at Canberra on August 15 with Joe Ible’s Rush to Judgement winning the seventh race in good style.
He then raced at Warwick Farm on Wednesday but found the track too wet and the opposition a bit strong.
Also at Canberra, Chris Hensler’s Liam Da Torio put in one of his best runs yet to finish a good second.
On August 17, a big team travelled to Goulburn.
In race four, Mark Macdonald’s Lavington Star ran another good race to finish fourth.
The horse deserves a win; maybe it will be at Moruya on Sunday.
Six Moruya gallopers lined up in race six.
Matt Stephens’ Intimate Kingdom renewed his love affair with the track.
He has won five races, all at Goulburn and at the average odds of 20-1.
Briefcase Benny ran another good race to finish second and Jayko led, but just couldn’t hold on to third and give Moruya the trifecta.
Last Saturday, John Marzol’s Lothello ran a good fourth at Kembla, doing his best work late in the race.
He looks close to another win.
The following day, six locals made the trip to Nowra but couldn’t land in the placings.
It was left to Roly Saxton to fly the Moruya flag when he steered Silver Threads to a good win in the last race.
Local apprentice Maddy Wright has recently moved to Kembla and we wish her well.
At the same time we welcome Melinda Kinny to our local riding ranks.
Melinda is an apprentice, who has transferred to the Joe Ible stable.
Expect to see her on many of the local horses as she settles in and rides work for a variety of local trainers.
Welcome Mel and good luck and we hope to see a lot of you at Moruya on Sunday.
