“There is no live music scene in Batemans Bay, so unless you are a surfer or sportsperson, there is little to do,” music venue booking agent Skylar Kyu said.
“We have handpicked a panel to discuss the state of this scene in the Bay, and we want people to come along and have their say.”
The panel will feature Ms Kyu, who books venues in Sydney, Newcastle and Katoomba, as well as Batemans Bay, Former Eden-Monaro federal MP Dr Mike Kelly, Eurobodalla Shire Council' youth development officer Josh Waterson, Leland Foster of South Coast band Latham’s Grip and Musician and St Peter’s Anglican College musical director and director of the Nelli Jam/Black Sheep festival Danny Forster.
The forum will be hosted by Music NSW and Arts NSW to help plan for the Indent Tour, a music tour coming to Batemans Bay in October 2015 that will be organised by Eurobodalla youth.
”We want to get an idea of what people want to do; what they want to see put on,” Ms Kyu said.
Ms Kyu is hoping for a more enthusiastic response to the meeting than to a all-ages music show she organised at the Batemans Bay Salvation Army headquarters in April.
“Only about 20 kids turned up, and most of those were from the church’s youth group” she said.
“I think there was a stigma about the venue.”
Tonight’s meeting is free to attend and it is on from 6:30pm to 8pm at Captains @ Mariners, 31 Orient Street, Batemans Bay.
