The fifth-placed Seahawks are pushing for a finals position in the AFL Canberra third grade competition and tackle the ADFA/RMC Rams at 2.15pm at Hanging Rock Oval.
All teams had a bye last week and Seahawks captain/coach Sam Millynn said the Bay should have a deeper list to choose from than in its previous loss to Woden.
“Shaun Green and I should be back from injury; we’re in a pretty similar condition,” Millynn said.
“We have a reasonably full list to pick from and we should be as strong as we can be.”
ADFA is a benchmark for fitness in the competition and Millynn said the Seahawks had worked on ways to negate their forward press.
“I’m confident our guys will have enough run to finish off our game plan,” he said.
“I’m trying to get our guys to take it on and run the ball to get past their press instead of panicking and kicking it into them, which is what they want.”
There’s also plenty of entertainment for Seahawks supporters throughout the day.
It’s ladies’ day and while first grade plays, discounted wine and cider will be available along with nibbles.
On the adjacent rugby field, the bumper fun-filled sport of bubble soccer will be an option.
It will cost $10 for 15 minutes per person and some funds go to the Seahawks.
After the final siren, players, supporters, family and friends will don their best semi-formal attire for the club’s Night at the Races event.
The night shares the date with the horse’s birthday and six sponsored races will run for keen punters; although there is no form guide available as they are European races with new names.
Each guest receives fake money and the biggest winner across all six races wins a prize.
In true races spirit, the fashions on the field contest will be held with a $150 gift voucher for first place and minor vouchers for the runners-up.
George Kemp is providing music for entertainment between races and two Canberra Comedy Club comedians, Emo Parsonson and Hamish Hudson, will each deliver a set.
It starts at 6pm at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club and tickets, for $35 per person, are available at the door.
For catering purposes or ticketing information phone Jamie Kemp on 0408 812 007.
