Live Traffic NSW reported a car towing a boat caused the phone line to fall.
A police spokesman said that was yet to be confirmed.
"The original report came through that a car towing a boat had caused the incident, but that has not been identified yet," he said.
"There is no car towing a boat on the scene."
An Essential Energy spokeswoman said they received reports at about 9.15am that a high vehicle had brought down wires across the Princes Highway at Mogo.
"A crew from our Moruya depot responded and determined it to be a telecommunications wire and not a power line."
9.30: Police have reported a fallen telephone line is delaying Princes Highway traffic at Mogo.
Traffic control is in place, but vehicles are experiencing delays.
A Batemans Bay police officer said Telstra workers had arrived on the scene.
