Timothy George McDougall was charged with failing to comply with his reporting obligations under the Child Protection (Offenders Registration) Act 2000.
He was placed on the register in July 2014, when he was convicted of two counts of sexual intercourse with a minor and sentenced to a three-year section 9 bond.
McDougall, 24, of Braidwood Street, will remain on the register until 2029.
In court, he pleaded guilty to failing to report changes in his phone number and email address within the specified time.
His counsel, John Edmunds, told magistrate Doug Dick that his client forgot to report the changes because he had other things on his mind.
Mr Edmunds asked the court to consider a bond and fines instead of imprisonment for McDougall.
Mr Dick told the defendant that if he failed to comply with his obligations within the next two years, he would go to prison.
“It’s a sloppy approach that’s got you here today. You can’t be excused next time,” he said.
McDougall’s two-year suspended prison sentence will be served on a good behaviour bond and he was fined $2000.
