Tomago River users are rejoicing as the new boat launching ramp is now in service. Boat users in the area are giving a big “thumbs up” to council.

Bev Dunne, from the health food shop in the Bay, spent a fabulous Sunday last week celebrating the winter solstice. Lots of fine food, lots of fun friends, lots of fine wine to celebrate the occasion. The solstice is always welcomed; those dark mornings can only become lighter from now on.

Eight yachts rafted-up off Wimbie Beach kept beach-goers entertained. The weather was perfect, although seas just rough enough to keep everyone on their toes.

More excitement at Wimbie Beach arrived when a young chap on a skidoo was chased by a pod of dolphins enjoying the ride in his wake. He went slow, he went fast to try to lose them but they had no intention of swimming off . . . what a sight!

Happy birthday to Susan Pinnock this week. We heard it was the big 60, although it’s hard to believe. Susan had an “awesome” party on Saturday night at Saigon Palace Vietnamese restaurant, organised by her friend Linzea, and she will celebrate again in Canberra this Sunday with family . . . so the party continues.

We missed a great story of a well-known woman about town earlier this month, so this is a catch-up . . . Great weekend for Vi Merrett in early June with a Sunday lunch at the Cat Club with 30 Friendship group members, and a large birthday cake. On the Monday it was a driving test at the RMS before her 85th the next day, which she passed with “no worries”, then on the big day it was a banquet lunch at the Golden Dragon to farewell Kayla, who was leaving for Noosa. Next stop was to Quota friends who had made a lovely cake, then iPad lessons . . . this woman likes to keep up with the times. In the evening, daughter Viv hosted a family dinner, with hubby wearing the chef’s apron. Great-grandsons Finn and Blair entered under dimmed lights with a cake bearing two candles - an 8 and a 5 (Blair will have the 5 on his birthday cake next week). Such a happy day for this lucky lady! Viv’s card played “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” - that’s our Viv!

The Friendship Group plans to picnic this weekend at the Botanic Gardens. This great group makes the most of every day.

Mrs Farrington-Smythe made it to Perth, and decided to park the motor home and spend a few days at The Richardson Hotel and Spa. Apparently, it is THE place to stay in Perth, and she intends to catch up with friends over High Tea at the Pan Pacific.
