Clyde United, a perennial powerhouse of the competition, is undefeated and are the favourite with a goal difference of 37 from 10 games.

Clyde captain/coach Renee Coubrough said the team was gelling together well.

“We’ve virtually got the same team (as last year),” Coubrough said.

“Some past players have come back to play.” 

A loss before the finals wouldn’t upset the coach too much as it can realign players’ focus.

“We don’t want to lose when it matters,” she said. 

Batemans Bay sits in second and it’s been an interesting season with a mixture of triumphant wins and significant losses.

Many players returned from last year but Clyde also recruited some players who had either never played before or wanted to dust off their boots.

Co-captain Tahlia Fletcher said the team was ecstatic with its dynamic and feels they pose a threat with their talent and skills.

She said the team felt it would improve as they gained experience playing together and could match a side like Clyde that has been playing together “for years”.

“This year has been an exciting one, however, the greatest challenge has been getting a full team to take the field with injuries and other commitments making substitutes a rare luxury,” Fletcher said.

The Bay would like to win the competition but is focussed on the grand final and improving their quality. 

“(We want) to play to the best of our ability, bringing a fun and exciting game for those who take time out of their weekend to watch and support local sporting events,” she said.

Moruya sits in third, eight competition points behind Batemans Bay, and it’s also eyeing off a grand final berth like the Bay. 

Moruya Soccer Club president Crystal Staunton said the team had taken a while to get back to its best.

“We lost of the older girls in the team who had played for years,” Staunton said.

“We lost a lot of structure and the first few weeks were a bit difficult, we only had three that played last year.

“We’d love to get into second, if not; we’re still in with a chance.”

Narooma Soccer Club president Graham Tasker said the club’s all age ladies’ side was “cruising alright”.

“We’re plodding along, we’ve had a lot of players out,” Tasker said.

“The girls are having fun, we have 17 players but we’re struggling to get a full side on the park.

“It’s either one sub or no subs.”

Tasker said he’d like to see some more consistency through the final seven games.

“We have a few new girls, a couple that haven’t played before mixed with good talent,” he said.

“They seem pretty happy.” 

On Sunday, Batemans Bay plays Narooma and Moruya plays Clyde United at Gundary Oval.

Kick-off is at 1pm.
