A veterans member who asked not to be named received a letter from the club on Monday.
“It said that, because of the refusal of sections of the veterans’ sub-committee to implement the conditions of the review, all committee positions are null and void,” he said.
“They wanted to destroy us and they have succeeded.
“I am at a loss as to why they would do this to us.”
The club recently provided the men’s veterans with a document outlining the review of sub-club operations within the club.
It restricted the group’s bank balance to $4000, prohibited the purchase of gift cards from retail outlets for golf prizes and insisted the signatories to all bank accounts be approved by the board.
Sub-club committee members would no longer be paid honorariums.
The changes came into effect on Wednesday.
The member denied the vets had totally rejected the review.
“We know that change has to happen, but the problem is how to go about it, and that the end result is totally wrong,” he said.
The golf events funding review committee, chaired by two club directors and comprised of representatives from the ladies golf committee, lady vets committee and men’s vets committee was formed in February, and its final submission was submitted to the club’s board in April.
The member said that the review ignored the committee’s findings, and that the men’s vets objection to this had led to the committee’s disbandment.
“A lot of changes were never discussed with us, and the board and management won’t sit down to talk with us about them,” he said.
