More than 50 members and three new members could not help but admire the display tables, which were laden with beautiful specimens of camellias, the Flower of the Month, in a wide range of colours.
After the formal session, Eurobodalla Shire mayor Lindsay Brown addressed the meeting.
Lindsay outlined his background in politics, and said he had four attempts at being elected to council.
So, he said, he became “determined and persistent”, and finally crossed the line in 2008, and was elected mayor in 2012.
He talked about a personal health scare recently, and getting the “all clear” from his doctors.
During a question and answer session, members asked about council responsibilities such as roads, rates, communication improvements, rabbit eradication, revitalisation of the Batemans Bay CBD, problems with trees and siltation of waterways.
He told the meeting that 33 per cent of ratepayers didn’t live at their shire address, a “surprisingly high number”.
Everybody enjoyed Lind-say’s easy manner and frankness so much that the session ran over time.
The members thanked him and invited him to return at a meeting in the future.
The Garden Club meets on the last Thursday of the month (next meeting on July 30) at 2pm in the Anglican Church Hall, Herarde Street, Batemans Bay, and guests are always welcome.
Have fun with flowers
THE Batemans Bay Garden Club’s Fun with Flowers group exhibits some impressive displays at the club’s monthly meetings.
This group meets on the last Tuesday of the month in the Men’s Shed, in the grounds of St Bernard’s Catholic Church, David Street, Batehaven, at 1.30pm.
After an informal lesson and making creations, the members have afternoon tea before departing at 3pm.
Anyone interested in an enjoyable afternoon and floral art, is welcome to join this happy group.
