The Devil’s Reserves didn’t fare well and were badly beaten 69 to 10 by the Bay Tigers, but at least this week they were able to field a team.
Devils club president Jaime Wright said that it was good to field a team but reminded players that ‘no train, no gain – we beat the Bateman’s Bay team last time – so get training!’
After the Devils Reserves game the first grades Devils took to the field and what a wonderful surprise they had in stall for spectators.
From the first kick-off the Devils looked good and within 10 minutes they had scored their first try when Trey Parsons scooted over the line.
Devils try scorers were Todd Wright one; coach Clint Wright who scored a hat trick three tries; Riley Hextell one; and Brendon Harper one.
Brendon Harper also kicked six goals which according to Devils president Jaime Wright was ‘great kicking’.
The final score was Narooma Devils 40 Bateman’s Bay Tigers 24.
“It was great to see Riley Hextell back after injury as he was sorely missed,” Jaime said.
“After all year battling we have proven that keeping learning and training we will get the rewards, we have to just stay dedicated and train, train, train,” he said.
The Wright brothers show good combination, Tony Tyrell went well and the forwards ran the Bay ragged.
“All the boys had a good game and made a real team effort,” coach Clint said.
Best and fairest went to Todd Wright with three, Tony Tyrell two and Brendon Harper one. Riley Hextell took out the Coaches Award and the Player’s Player was Todd Wright.
This long weekend the Devils have a bye and the following weekend they travel to Moruya for the local derby.
Narooma Devils U10s
THE second placed U10s Narooma Devils faced off against third placed Eden in what was going to be a test for the Narooma Devils.
Eden started strongly and scored a good try after a few minutes play which they converted giving Eden a six nil lead over Narooma.
“The Eden side has a big game player who runs and tackles well above his age,” coach Kerry Day said.
“The U10 Devils had a lot of trouble containing him.
“But it was Devils Byron Lonsdale-Patten and Bryce Hastie to the rescue with some brilliant running and strong defence,” coach Day said.
The Narooma U10 Devils managed to lift their game and scored some good tries to lead Eden 24-10 at half-time.
Eden scored after the break but the Devils retaliated with some good running and passing that resulted in a good win for Narooma 44-22.
“There were a host of good players including Byron, Bryce and Darcy Sealy with Ethan (Six-Pack) Griffiths making some great tackles on much bigger Eden players,” coach Day said.
The next game is against competition leaders Tathra at home which coach Day says is going to be a test for the Devils.
