Today’s Bay Post/Moruya Examiner features three stories about council plans for plans; the just approved Moruya Airport master plan, a plan under way for a Batemans Bay indoor pool and a coastal zone management plan.
Then there is council’s equine centre plan, and changes to its controversial Local Environment Plan (LEP).
Council has operational plans, development contribution plans, settlement strategy and structure plans, flood plans, a community strategic plan, a four-year delivery plan, a long-term financial plan, and a workforce management plan, to name a few.
There are strategies, aka more plans, on asset management, bio-certification, business development, economic development, heritage, positive ageing, settlement, waste, regional waste, water cycle management, pedestrian access and mobility, property, recreation and open space, Tuross Head open space, road safety, shared paths, and more.
Should we talk about the policies? Council reviewed 114 of those back in 2013. They ranged from conservation of the yellow-bellied glider in Broulee and “local directional fingerboard signs” to bush fire management, youth services, smoke-free outdoor areas and stormwater disposal.
Council this month ratified a new town signs policy, which came after the Tuross Head business community applied to erect a new sign on the Princes Highway and council realised it did not have a policy for it.
Don’t get me wrong, plans are beneficial – they give direction and set clear goals to work toward.
Plans are great, if you stick to them.
Plans for a $44-million sports precinct at Hanging Rock, including an indoor pool, were prepared and endorsed in 2013. Now it appears the council is spending $200,000 to have another go.
A concept plan was prepared for Moruya Airport some nine years ago and the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner understands it was not the first.
And, the council has spent the past three years reviewing its LEP after an outcry of community dissent in 2012.
One has to wonder, when will we see some action?
