The Boars, with a host of players out through injury and illness, were left with only 12 players to face Marist’s full team of 15-plus reserves.
Early in the match the heavily outnumbered Boars were trapped on their try line.
The home side was stout in defence and repelled constant attacks before it gained possession.
Captain Jacob Fitzgerald counterattacked with a weaving solo effort to a length of the field try.
Marist hit back almost immediately to hit the lead 7-5.
The Boars rallied again and fought through fatigue to post two more tries and led 17-7 at the half-time break.
Marist, benefitting from fresh players, started the second half with great purpose, rushing to 19-17 lead.
Ten minutes from full-time, the Boars showed great character and determination and attacked the fringe of the Marist attack with Bray Johnstone making massive inroads.
Through some exceptional forward play Jack Colovatti was able to crash over for his first try of the season, which put the Boars in front.
Josh Story duly converted a difficult kick from out wide and the home side led 24-19.
Marist, facing the indignity of being beaten by a 12-man side, replied with aggression.
However, the Boars lifted and dominated the last 10 minutes scoring a further two tries to seal an amazing win 36-19.
Coach Michael Young said it was often a 12-man side could beat a team with a full complement of players.
“The boys were exhausted out there,” Young said.
“This is a win that both these boys and the club as a whole should never forget and should be inspired by for years to come.
“All spectators who were present witnessed something special out there.”
