A good crowd was treated to perfect weather and entertaining footy as the Group 16 competition entered the second round of home and away fixtures.
The under 18s found form and bolted to a 24-6 lead at half-time.
The Tigers did not let up in the second stanza and poured in 24 more points in the half to win 46-12.
Halfback Doug Ebsworth led the charge with a four try effort, backed up by Luke Wilson and Zac Henstock with two each.
Determined running by Sam McCann, Egan Ellis and Lachlan Knox had the visitors on their heels and Ryan Connell, Dean Belcher, John Rodwell and Chris Ledieu gave the side plenty of go forward.
The reserve grade game was an entertaining affair.
The home side trailed 12-6 at half-time and were further behind when Cooma scored first in the second half.
Coach Seth Merritt spurred the Bay on and it worked a treat as the Tigers’ Jason Wright and Ben Carmody scored two and Jack Drew nabbed a try to give the side a 34-22 win.
“Joey Brierley and Charles Nye steered the boys around the park and the ball runners took advantage of the good service, with Bailey Scholtz, Jack Drew, Marcus Neal and Jason Wright doing the damage,” club spokesperson John Ladmore said.
Ashbee Reid and Mick Potts were strong and Dylan Powell, Anthony Chatfield and Jason Cox put in big efforts.
The tries by Drew and Carmody had the crowd on its feet.
Drew’s try was a beauty when the smallest bloke on the field, Willy Thomas, made a break and slipped a ball to the biggest bloke, Drew, who steamrolled 15 metres to the try line.
Carmody showed the value of backing up to post a brace.
After eight rounds of competition Batemans Bay sits sixth on the Group 16 first grade competition table with six points, reserve grade is sixth with four points and the under 18s are third with eight points.
